The Career and Academic Planning (CAP) class encourages students to make wise decisions regarding their post-high school plans based on their personal interests. Students need to be aware of the importance of the class, owing up to the fact that it is necessary to graduate.
“In CAP, there are things outside of regular core classes and elective classes that you need to move forward. It helps to guide you what you want to do in your future like getting into a certain college,” CAP and English teacher Matthew Pounds said.
All students are tasked to complete their Personal Transition Plan (PTP) before graduation. PTP is designed to guide students in achieving their long term goals in post-secondary education, training, area of employment, and in the area of independent living/community participation.
“I do think that CAP is important because it helps you plan for your future,” Kyoko Ysawa, junior, said.
Although many students acknowledge the impact the class has in their lives, countless students still fail the class each year.
“I didn’t finish all of my CAP work because I don’t feel motivated to do them,” Jenniko Corinth, senior, said. “In CAP, I usually do my work from other classes,” she added.
Due to the lack of student performance in the Career and Academic Planning (CAP) class, administration is proposing to change the schedule of the exam week. Students who did poorly in their CAP lessons will be required to go to their homeroom to make up their work. Students who completed their CAP work, however, are allowed to leave the campus after 3rd period. Period 4’s exam will be pushed into the next day.
