This school year, Moanalua High School administration has introduced a new re drill procedure in the event of an emergency.
Unlike the old procedure where students and faculty would immediately report to their designated areas, the new procedure states that in the event that the alarm goes off, everyone should report to the nearest classroom, if not already in one. Once safely in a classroom, they should wait for further instruction from administration via the intercom system. However, if a fire is observed in or close to a nearby classroom, students and faculty should evacuate immediately and proceed to their designated parking lot or eld area to which their class is assigned.
Teacher’s Lotus Notes and megaphones act as the back- up communication that will be used for further instructions.
Vice Principal Tara Hathaway, explained that these changes were based on a re-evaluation of the previous re drill policy and were put in place to ensure safety for all on campus. Currently, the faculty at Moanalua High School believes that this plan is benecial and see it becoming a long term plan for the school.
“These re-drill procedures will be in place for Moanalua High School unless the State Safety Department releases a statewide plan that would supersede this,” Ms. Hathaway said.
This new re drill procedure has been put in place for the safety of everyone at Moanalua and should always be adhered to in the event an alarm goes off.
