After 30 years of teaching at Moanalua High School, Head Director of the Music Department Elden T. Seta was recognized by Hawaii State Senator Glenn Wakai for dedicating himself to the school and his students. The community as well as the students and parents wanted to give thanks for the many years of hard work.

Being a music department teacher, much of his time has been spent with the students, teaching Marching Band, Concert Band, Symphonic Wind Ensemble, and Symphony Orchestra. Throughout his career, he has given students the opportunity to travel worldwide while spreading their love and passion for music. Students under Mr. Seta’s direction have performed in locations worldwide, including London, Japan, and even at the world renowned Carnegie Hall in New York City. Last year, the Symphony Orchestra traveled to Atlanta, Georgia and competed in the American String Teachers Association (ASTA) National Orchestra Festival. The Symphony Orchestra won the competition, earning the title of “National Grand Champions.”

Despite all of these accomplishments, Mr. Seta continues to teach his students humbly, crediting his amazing staff, a supportive administration, and the community who helped to make all of him and his classes’ achievements possible.

“I truly believe this program has grown with everyone cooperating together,” Seta said. The award may have been given to one person, but the combined efforts of everyone's commitment and hard work made the success possible. Mr. Seta is proud to be apart of a community that is like family.
