Kina'ole kicks off

The annual Kina’ole Awards Banquet and Silent Auction is the one and only fundraiser held by the Moanalua High School Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) for the school. This event is not only a fundraiser for MoHS, but it is also a way for the school to recognize and honor members of the community who embody what the word “Kina’ole” truly means.

The Hawaiian word “Kina’ole” means doing the right thing, in the right way, at the right time, in the right place, for the right individual, for the right reason, with the right feeling, the first time. This year will be the 15th annual Kina’ole Awards Banquet and the honorees are nothing short of representing what “Kina’ole” truly means.

This year’s honorees are Julia Toyama, former MoHS teacher and faculty member who filled numerous roles including counselor, Student Assistance Counselor, vice-principal, and 2001 class advisor; Dean Sakamoto, 1979 graduate, architect, owner of Dean Sakamoto Architects LLC, who is known for environmentally conscious designs, and founder/director of the non-profit community service institute SHADE; and Leighton Hirai, a dedicated MoHS science teacher active in student activities and the 1980 and 1984 class advisor.

The Kina’ole Awards Banquet and Silent Auction is going to be on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at the Honolulu Country Club. The Silent Auction starts at 5:30 pm and the dinner begins at 7:30 pm. Proceeds from the event go directly to supplemental funds for equipment, supplies, and programs on campus. Last year, the PTSA was able to utilize the proceeds for various things in school, such as post-high school scholarships, breakfast on ACT testing day, faculty appreciation gifts, and travel assistance for students in clubs or organizations representing MoHS and Hawaii in national competitions.

The MoHS PTSA kindly asks that you consider purchasing a ticket, table, or donating goods or services for the silent auction. This being the sole fundraiser for the PTSA, any and all monetary donations are welcomed and greatly appreciated.

If you have any further inquiries, would like to make donations, or would like to attend the event, please contact Steven Bailey at (808) 392-1072 or email: mohs.kinaole@gmail.com.
