Over the past few years, baby gender reveal parties have been taking over the internet. Nowadays, wholesome family moments are just not enough. Expecting parents are trying so hard to get to the top, focusing on color coordination and special effects, instead of their future child. Last April, an expecting dad in Arizona set off an explosion of blue powder, which eventually sparked a six day fire that burned over 45,000 acres. At this point, it’s not even about their future child. It’s about them - the parents - and what their millions of viewers will see. People are becoming increasingly corrupted by social media’s new trends, to the point where they’re risking their lives for attention. By the looks of it, recognition from strangers on the internet seems to be more important than their child. It has come to a time where people need fireworks and special effects in order to “celebrate,” or to be recognized. We’re so easily blinded by the prospect of fame and attention, that we are drifting away from what really matters. But once the smoke clears and the explosions are over, all they are left with is one big mess to clean up.
