Construction causes students to be concerned about on campus parking

NA HOKU STAFF

Due to the recent start of construction of the final phase of the Moanalua High School Performing Arts Center, student parking has been replaced with construction equipment, supplies and vehicles. This brought a lot of upset to the students who drive to school as they had to give up numerous stalls to the construction process.

Upperclassmen driving to school pay $15 at the beginning of the school year to be able to park their vehicle on campus.

Although refunds are slowly being issued to students, it should be a given for students to have their mode of transportation safe and secure within our parking lot,  rather than blocks away. There was no proper verification of when the construction crews were coming - which prompted students to scramble, modifying their morning schedule and route to ensure that they could get to school on time.

Some students who drive, live in distant areas where traffic contributes to the time that it takes to get to school. Even if those students aim to arrive at school early just to find parking, parking stalls would be filled by the students who live nearby - leaving them to park far and risk their chances of being late and serving detention.

Unfortunately, current seniors and juniors will not be able to see the outcome of the project, and yet are the very ones directly affected by it. It is hard to get adjusted to so many changes this quick, but the payoff of having a new auditorium for future students to have a better learning experience would make up for it.
